  13. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.
  14. The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
  15. The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
  16. and they believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.
  17. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
  18. But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt,
  19. Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

    Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.
  21. But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
  22. Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.
  23. But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
