37 With a loud cry, Jesus took his last breath.
38 The temple curtain was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 A Roman commander was standing there in front of Jesus. He saw how Jesus died. Then he said, “This man was surely the Son of God!”
40 Not very far away, some women were watching. Mary Magdalene was among them. Mary, the mother of the younger James and of Joseph, was also there. So was Salome. 41 In Galilee these women had followed Jesus. They had taken care of his needs. Many other women were also there. They had come up with him to Jerusalem.

37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(A)
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(B) 39 And when the centurion,(C) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[a] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(D)
40 Some women were watching from a distance.(E) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[b] and Salome.(F) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(G)
