Caín y Abel
4 Conoció Adán a su mujer Eva, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: Por voluntad de Jehová he adquirido[a] varón. 2 Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel fue pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra. 3 Y aconteció andando el tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra una ofrenda a Jehová. 4 Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, de lo más gordo de ellas. Y miró Jehová con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda;(A) 5 pero no miró con agrado a Caín y a la ofrenda suya. Y se ensañó Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante. 6 Entonces Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado, y por qué ha decaído tu semblante? 7 Si bien hicieres, ¿no serás enaltecido? y si no hicieres bien, el pecado está a la puerta; con todo esto, a ti será su deseo, y tú te enseñorearás de él.[b]
8 Y dijo Caín a su hermano Abel: Salgamos al campo. Y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y lo mató.(B) 9 Y Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso guarda de mi hermano? 10 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra. 11 Ahora, pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra, que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. 12 Cuando labres la tierra, no te volverá a dar su fuerza; errante y extranjero serás en la tierra. 13 Y dijo Caín a Jehová: Grande es mi castigo para ser soportado. 14 He aquí me echas hoy de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé, y seré errante y extranjero en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará. 15 Y le respondió Jehová: Ciertamente cualquiera que matare a Caín, siete veces será castigado. Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo matase cualquiera que le hallara.
16 Salió, pues, Caín de delante de Jehová, y habitó en tierra de Nod,[c] al oriente de Edén. 17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Enoc. 18 Y a Enoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec. 19 Y Lamec tomó para sí dos mujeres; el nombre de la una fue Ada, y el nombre de la otra, Zila. 20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganados. 21 Y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan arpa y flauta. 22 Y Zila también dio a luz a Tubal-caín, artífice de toda obra de bronce y de hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín fue Naama.
23 Y dijo Lamec a sus mujeres:
Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz;
Mujeres de Lamec, escuchad mi dicho:
Que un varón mataré por mi herida,
Y un joven por mi golpe.
24 Si siete veces será vengado Caín,
Lamec en verdad setenta veces siete lo será.
25 Y conoció de nuevo Adán a su mujer, la cual dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Set:[d] Porque Dios (dijo ella) me ha sustituido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, a quien mató Caín. 26 Y a Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces los hombres comenzaron a invocar el nombre de Jehová.
Los descendientes de Adán
(1 Cr. 1.1-4)
5 Este es el libro de las generaciones de Adán. El día en que creó Dios al hombre, a semejanza de Dios lo hizo. 2 Varón y hembra los creó;(C) y los bendijo,(D) y llamó el nombre de ellos Adán, el día en que fueron creados.
3 Y vivió Adán ciento treinta años, y engendró un hijo a su semejanza, conforme a su imagen, y llamó su nombre Set. 4 Y fueron los días de Adán después que engendró a Set, ochocientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 5 Y fueron todos los días que vivió Adán novecientos treinta años; y murió. 6 Vivió Set ciento cinco años, y engendró a Enós. 7 Y vivió Set, después que engendró a Enós, ochocientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 8 Y fueron todos los días de Set novecientos doce años; y murió.
9 Vivió Enós noventa años, y engendró a Cainán. 10 Y vivió Enós, después que engendró a Cainán, ochocientos quince años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 11 Y fueron todos los días de Enós novecientos cinco años; y murió.
12 Vivió Cainán setenta años, y engendró a Mahalaleel. 13 Y vivió Cainán, después que engendró a Mahalaleel, ochocientos cuarenta años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 14 Y fueron todos los días de Cainán novecientos diez años; y murió.
15 Vivió Mahalaleel sesenta y cinco años, y engendró a Jared. 16 Y vivió Mahalaleel, después que engendró a Jared, ochocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 17 Y fueron todos los días de Mahalaleel ochocientos noventa y cinco años; y murió.
18 Vivió Jared ciento sesenta y dos años, y engendró a Enoc. 19 Y vivió Jared, después que engendró a Enoc, ochocientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 20 Y fueron todos los días de Jared novecientos sesenta y dos años; y murió.
21 Vivió Enoc sesenta y cinco años, y engendró a Matusalén. 22 Y caminó Enoc con Dios, después que engendró a Matusalén, trescientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 23 Y fueron todos los días de Enoc trescientos sesenta y cinco años. 24 Caminó, pues, Enoc con Dios,(E) y desapareció, porque le llevó Dios. 25 Vivió Matusalén ciento ochenta y siete años, y engendró a Lamec. 26 Y vivió Matusalén, después que engendró a Lamec, setecientos ochenta y dos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 27 Fueron, pues, todos los días de Matusalén novecientos sesenta y nueve años; y murió.
28 Vivió Lamec ciento ochenta y dos años, y engendró un hijo; 29 y llamó su nombre Noé,[e] diciendo: Este nos aliviará de nuestras obras y del trabajo de nuestras manos, a causa de la tierra que Jehová maldijo. 30 Y vivió Lamec, después que engendró a Noé, quinientos noventa y cinco años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 31 Y fueron todos los días de Lamec setecientos setenta y siete años; y murió.
32 Y siendo Noé de quinientos años, engendró a Sem, a Cam y a Jafet.
La maldad de los hombres
6 Aconteció que cuando comenzaron los hombres a multiplicarse sobre la faz de la tierra, y les nacieron hijas, 2 que viendo los hijos de Dios que las hijas de los hombres eran hermosas, tomaron para sí mujeres, escogiendo entre todas. 3 Y dijo Jehová: No contenderá mi espíritu con el hombre para siempre, porque ciertamente él es carne; mas serán sus días ciento veinte años. 4 Había gigantes en la tierra en aquellos días,(F) y también después que se llegaron los hijos de Dios a las hijas de los hombres, y les engendraron hijos. Estos fueron los valientes que desde la antigüedad fueron varones de renombre.
5 Y vio Jehová que la maldad de los hombres era mucha en la tierra, y que todo designio de los pensamientos del corazón de ellos era de continuo solamente el mal. 6 Y se arrepintió Jehová de haber hecho hombre en la tierra, y le dolió en su corazón. 7 Y dijo Jehová: Raeré de sobre la faz de la tierra a los hombres que he creado, desde el hombre hasta la bestia, y hasta el reptil y las aves del cielo; pues me arrepiento de haberlos hecho. 8 Pero Noé halló gracia ante los ojos de Jehová.(G)
Noé construye el arca
9 Estas son las generaciones de Noé: Noé, varón justo,(H) era perfecto en sus generaciones; con Dios caminó Noé. 10 Y engendró Noé tres hijos: a Sem, a Cam y a Jafet. 11 Y se corrompió la tierra delante de Dios, y estaba la tierra llena de violencia. 12 Y miró Dios la tierra, y he aquí que estaba corrompida; porque toda carne había corrompido su camino sobre la tierra. 13 Dijo, pues, Dios a Noé: He decidido el fin de todo ser, porque la tierra está llena de violencia a causa de ellos; y he aquí que yo los destruiré con la tierra. 14 Hazte un arca de madera de gofer; harás aposentos en el arca, y la calafatearás con brea por dentro y por fuera. 15 Y de esta manera la harás: de trescientos codos la longitud del arca, de cincuenta codos su anchura, y de treinta codos su altura. 16 Una ventana harás al arca, y la acabarás a un codo de elevación por la parte de arriba; y pondrás la puerta del arca a su lado; y le harás piso bajo, segundo y tercero. 17 Y he aquí que yo traigo un diluvio de aguas sobre la tierra, para destruir toda carne en que haya espíritu de vida debajo del cielo; todo lo que hay en la tierra morirá. 18 Mas estableceré mi pacto contigo, y entrarás en el arca tú, tus hijos, tu mujer, y las mujeres de tus hijos contigo. 19 Y de todo lo que vive, de toda carne, dos de cada especie meterás en el arca, para que tengan vida contigo; macho y hembra serán. 20 De las aves según su especie, y de las bestias según su especie, de todo reptil de la tierra según su especie, dos de cada especie entrarán contigo, para que tengan vida. 21 Y toma contigo de todo alimento que se come, y almacénalo, y servirá de sustento para ti y para ellos. 22 Y lo hizo así Noé;(I) hizo conforme a todo lo que Dios le mandó.
El diluvio
7 Dijo luego Jehová a Noé: Entra tú y toda tu casa en el arca; porque a ti he visto justo delante de mí en esta generación. 2 De todo animal limpio tomarás siete parejas, macho y su hembra; mas de los animales que no son limpios, una pareja, el macho y su hembra. 3 También de las aves de los cielos, siete parejas, macho y hembra, para conservar viva la especie sobre la faz de la tierra. 4 Porque pasados aún siete días, yo haré llover sobre la tierra cuarenta días y cuarenta noches; y raeré de sobre la faz de la tierra a todo ser viviente que hice. 5 E hizo Noé conforme a todo lo que le mandó Jehová.
6 Era Noé de seiscientos años cuando el diluvio de las aguas vino sobre la tierra. 7 Y por causa de las aguas del diluvio entró Noé al arca,(J) y con él sus hijos, su mujer, y las mujeres de sus hijos. 8 De los animales limpios, y de los animales que no eran limpios, y de las aves, y de todo lo que se arrastra sobre la tierra, 9 de dos en dos entraron con Noé en el arca; macho y hembra, como mandó Dios a Noé. 10 Y sucedió que al séptimo día las aguas del diluvio vinieron sobre la tierra.
11 El año seiscientos de la vida de Noé, en el mes segundo, a los diecisiete días del mes, aquel día fueron rotas todas las fuentes del grande abismo, y las cataratas de los cielos fueron abiertas,(K) 12 y hubo lluvia sobre la tierra cuarenta días y cuarenta noches. 13 En este mismo día entraron Noé, y Sem, Cam y Jafet hijos de Noé, la mujer de Noé, y las tres mujeres de sus hijos, con él en el arca; 14 ellos, y todos los animales silvestres según sus especies, y todos los animales domesticados según sus especies, y todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra según su especie, y toda ave según su especie, y todo pájaro de toda especie. 15 Vinieron, pues, con Noé al arca, de dos en dos de toda carne en que había espíritu de vida. 16 Y los que vinieron, macho y hembra de toda carne vinieron, como le había mandado Dios; y Jehová le cerró la puerta.
17 Y fue el diluvio cuarenta días sobre la tierra; y las aguas crecieron, y alzaron el arca, y se elevó sobre la tierra. 18 Y subieron las aguas y crecieron en gran manera sobre la tierra; y flotaba el arca sobre la superficie de las aguas. 19 Y las aguas subieron mucho sobre la tierra; y todos los montes altos que había debajo de todos los cielos, fueron cubiertos. 20 Quince codos más alto subieron las aguas, después que fueron cubiertos los montes. 21 Y murió toda carne que se mueve sobre la tierra, así de aves como de ganado y de bestias, y de todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra, y todo hombre. 22 Todo lo que tenía aliento de espíritu de vida en sus narices, todo lo que había en la tierra, murió. 23 Así fue destruido todo ser que vivía sobre la faz de la tierra, desde el hombre hasta la bestia, los reptiles, y las aves del cielo; y fueron raídos de la tierra, y quedó solamente Noé, y los que con él estaban en el arca. 24 Y prevalecieron las aguas sobre la tierra ciento cincuenta días.

Cain and Abel
4 Now the man [a]had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have obtained a male child with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now (A)Abel was (B)a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a cultivator of the ground. 3 So it came about [b]in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord from the fruit of the ground. 4 (C)Abel, on his part also brought an offering, from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And (D)the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering; 5 but (E)for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So (F)Cain became very angry and his face [c]was gloomy. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “(G)Why are you angry? And why is your face [d]gloomy? 7 (H)If you do well, [e]will your face not be [f]cheerful? (I)And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; and its desire is for you, (J)but you must master it.” 8 Cain [g]talked to his brother Abel; and it happened that when they were in the field Cain rose up against his brother Abel and (K)killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “(L)Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 Then He said, “What have you done? (M)The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground. 11 Now (N)you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 (O)When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; (P)you will be a wanderer and a drifter on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is too great to endure! 14 Behold, You have (Q)driven me this day from the face of the ground; and I will be hidden from Your face, and (R)I will be a wanderer and a drifter on the earth, and (S)whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 So the Lord said to him, “Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him (T)seven times as much.” And the Lord [h](U)placed a mark on Cain, so that no one finding him would kill him.
16 Then Cain left the presence (V)of the Lord, and [i]settled in the land of [j]Nod, east of Eden.
17 Cain [k]had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and Cain built a city, and named the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 Lamech took (W)two wives for himself: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and flute. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives,
“Adah and Zillah,
Listen to my voice,
You wives of Lamech,
Pay attention to my words,
(X)For I have killed a man for wounding me;
And a boy for striking me!
24 If Cain is avenged (Y)seven times,
Then Lamech seventy-seven times!”
25 (Z)Adam [l]had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him [m]Seth, for, she said, “God [n]has appointed me another [o]child in place of Abel, (AA)because Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth also (AB)a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then people began (AC)to call [p]upon the name of the Lord.
Descendants of Adam
5 This is the book of the generations of Adam. On the day when God created man, He made him (AD)in the likeness of God. 2 He created them (AE)male and female, and He (AF)blessed them and named them “mankind” on the day when they were created.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. 4 Then the days of Adam after he fathered Seth were eight hundred years, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 5 So all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.
6 Now Seth lived 105 years, and fathered Enosh. 7 Then Seth lived 807 years after he fathered Enosh, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 8 So all the days of Seth were 912 years, and he died.
9 Now Enosh lived ninety years, and fathered Kenan. 10 Then Enosh lived 815 years after he fathered Kenan, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 11 So all the days of Enosh were 905 years, and he died.
12 Now Kenan lived seventy years, and fathered Mahalalel. 13 Then Kenan lived 840 years after he fathered Mahalalel, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 14 So all the days of Kenan were 910 years, and he died.
15 Now Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and fathered Jared. 16 Then Mahalalel lived 830 years after he fathered Jared, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 17 So all the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died.
18 Now Jared lived 162 years, and fathered Enoch. 19 Then Jared lived eight hundred years after he fathered Enoch, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 20 So all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died.
21 Now Enoch lived sixty-five years, and fathered Methuselah. 22 Then Enoch (AG)walked with God three hundred years after he fathered Methuselah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were 365 years. 24 (AH)Enoch walked with God; and he was [q]not, for God (AI)took him.
25 Now Methuselah lived 187 years, and fathered Lamech. 26 Then Methuselah lived 782 years after he fathered Lamech, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 27 So all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.
28 Now Lamech lived 182 years, and fathered a son. 29 And he named him Noah, saying, “This one will give us comfort from our work and from the hard labor of our hands caused by (AJ)the ground which the Lord has cursed.” 30 Then Lamech lived 595 years after he fathered Noah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 31 So all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he died.
32 Now after Noah was (AK)five hundred years old, Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
The Corruption of Mankind
6 Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were [r]beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “(AL)My Spirit will not [s]remain with man forever, [t](AM)because he is also flesh; [u]nevertheless his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The [v](AN)Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of mankind, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that (AO)every intent of the thoughts of [w]their hearts was only evil continually. 6 So (AP)the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was (AQ)grieved [x]in His heart. 7 Then the Lord said, “(AR)I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For (AS)I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But (AT)Noah (AU)found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a (AV)righteous man, [y](AW)blameless in his generation. Noah (AX)walked with God. 10 And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was (AY)corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was (AZ)filled with violence. 12 And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for [z](BA)humanity had corrupted its way upon the earth.
13 Then God said to Noah, “(BB)The end of [aa]humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of [ab]people; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of [ac]gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and [ad]cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be [ae]three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a [af]window for the ark, and finish it to a [ag]cubit from [ah]the top; and put the door of the ark on the side; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 Now behold, (BC)I Myself am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which there is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18 But I will establish (BD)My covenant with you; and (BE)you shall enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 (BF)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 (BG)Of the birds according to their kind, and of the animals according to their kind, of every crawling thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you, take for yourself some of every (BH)food that is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and them.” 22 (BI)So Noah did these things; according to everything that God had commanded him, so he did.
The Flood
7 Then the Lord said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be (BJ)righteous before Me in this generation. 2 You shall take [ai]with you [aj]seven pairs of every (BK)clean animal, a male and his female; and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and his female; 3 also of the birds of the sky, [ak]seven pairs, male and female, to keep their [al]offspring alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For after (BL)seven more days, I will send rain on the earth for (BM)forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe out from the face of the land (BN)every living thing that I have made.” 5 So (BO)Noah acted in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him.
6 Now Noah was (BP)six hundred years old when the flood of water [am]came upon the earth. 7 Then (BQ)Noah and his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8 (BR)Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that crawls on the ground, 9 they all went into the ark to Noah [an]by twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 Now it came about after (BS)the seven days, that the waters of the flood [ao]came upon the earth. 11 In the (BT)six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all (BU)the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the [ap]floodgates of the sky were opened. 12 (BV)The rain [aq]fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
13 On this very same day (BW)Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14 they and every animal according to its kind, and all the livestock according to [ar]their kind, and every crawling thing that crawls on the earth according to its kind, and every bird according to its kind, [as]all sorts of birds. 15 So they went into the ark to Noah, (BX)by twos of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16 Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the Lord closed the door behind him.
17 Then the flood [at]came upon the earth for (BY)forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark [au]floated on the [av]surface of the water. 19 And the water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains [aw]everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed [ax]fifteen cubits higher, (BZ)and the mountains were covered. 21 So (CA)all [ay]creatures that moved on the earth perished: birds, livestock, animals, and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all (CB)in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23 So He wiped out [az]every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from mankind to animals, to crawling things, and the birds of the sky, and they were wiped out from the earth; and only (CC)Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24 (CD)The water prevailed upon the earth for 150 days.
