Ps. 58 Psalms of lament often contain sections that are curses directed against the evil and unjust. The objects of the psalmist’s scorn seem to be human rulers (v. 1 note), especially unjust judges. Early Christian tradition associated this psalm with the high priest and the Sanhedrin as they condemned Jesus (Matt. 26:57–68).
