21:12, 13 John 1:13–17 recounts a cleansing of the temple early in Jesus’ ministry rather than during the final week. Many scholars, both liberal and conservative, propose that either John or the Synoptic Gospels changed the occasion for theological or other reasons. Others conclude that Jesus drove out money-changers on two separate occasions (Mark 11:15 note).
