15:8 silver coins. The drachma (occurs only here in the New Testament) was the Greek equivalent of the Roman denarius, about a day’s wage for a laborer. The ten coins may have been the woman’s life savings, or they may have been strung together as a headdress.
light a lamp. Houses had no windows or perhaps small ones, so a lamp was needed even in the daytime.
