5:21 Restore us . . . restored. These two words are from the same Hebrew verb. Its use is ambiguous, since the restoration could be either a physical return of exiles to the land or a return that is moral and religious (repentance). The ambiguity is necessary, because the prophets never envisage a restoration to the land that is separate from repentance towards God. For an exact parallel of this thought, see Jer. 31:18.
