17:1–18:31 This section, recounting the Danite idolatry, is part of the conclusion to the Book of Judges. The phrases, “In those days there was no king in Israel” (17:6; 18:1), and “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (17:6) are repeated in the last section of the narrative cycles (19:1; 21:25). Without a king the people were miserable.
