15:1–63 The first territory west of the Jordan to be described is Judah’s, anticipating the importance of Judah in the later history of Israel as the tribe of David and finally of the Messiah to come (Is. 11:1; see also Gen. 49:8–12). The place names cannot all be identified. Also, the allocation was never followed completely or exactly. The promise was never fully realized in Israel’s Old Testament experience.
