Josh 13–21

13:1–21:45 The third major section of the book details the division of the land among the tribes. The significance of these chapters is made explicit in 21:43–45. The lists of boundaries and towns represent the objective content of the promises of God. Although many of the places are no longer known, and although their allotment here did not in all cases mean that the designated tribe actually occupied them (23:13), they nevertheless are an elaborate testimony to the faithfulness of the Lord.
