14:17 the Spirit of truth. Here also the Spirit is in equality with the Father (Is. 65:16) and the Son (v. 6). The “Spirit of truth” is the authority behind the Bible: see “The Authentication of Scripture” at 2 Cor. 4:6.

the world. Sinful humanity as contrasted with God’s redeemed people (15:18, 19; 17:9; 1 John 2:15–17; 4:5; 5:4, 5, 19).

with you and will be in you. The Spirit lives in believers (1 Cor. 3:16, 17; 6:19; 2 Cor. 6:16; Eph. 2:21).
