2:9–13 Therefore. Though not punished with death (v. 3 note; cf. Ezek. 16:37–40), the unfaithful and forgetful lover is severely chastised through a series of dramatic reversals in which God’s gifts are withdrawn: failed harvests, exposure, and the end of festivals.
