4:14–16 The sobering thought of our complete exposure before God draws us to the merciful High Priest who, having been tempted, can help us in our weakness (themes announced in 2:17, 18). An exhortation to “hold fast our confession” (v. 14) caps the preceding section, and an invitation to approach God’s throne introduces the discussion of Christ as the merciful High Priest.
