1:13, 14 The Son’s position of heavenly authority (v. 3; 8:1) is contrasted to the angels’ role as servants to “those who are to inherit salvation” (that is, who share as co-heirs in the Son’s rights as heir, vv. 2, 5; 2:10; 6:12; cf. Rom. 8:17, 29). The angels are servants to Christ, but also to His people, who inherit salvation through union with Him. In this His people are favored above the angels (cf. 2:16; 1 Cor. 6:3).
