28:6–9 Acting out of rivalry with his brother (v. 6) and a desire to please his father (v. 8), Esau sought another wife from among his relatives, the family of Ishmael (v. 9). Even in this effort Esau lacked spiritual perception, for Ishmael was the rejected natural offspring of Abraham (17:18–21; 21:12, 13).
