Gen 10:1–11:9

10:1–11:9 The “account” or “generations” of Noah’s family (2:4 note) consists of the Table of Nations (ch. 10) and the Tower of Babel narrative (11:1–9). Chronologically, the Tower of Babel precedes the Table of Nations, for the table presupposes the confusion of languages (10:5, 17, 20, 31). Two different yet complementary perspectives are present within this account: the Table of Nations presents the nations as of one blood, multiplying under God’s blessing (9:1), while the Tower of Babel narrative presents the nations as confused due to divine judgment (11:1–9).
