29:1–32:32 The proclamations against foreign nations in chs. 25–28 were directed largely against lesser states and immediate neighbors of Israel. However, these four chapters are directed against Egypt, one of the great empires of the ancient world. The chapters contain seven prophecies against Egypt; all are dated (29:1, 17; 30:20; 31:1; 32:1, 17) except the oracle beginning in 30:1.
