ESV Reformation Study Bible – Eph 1:6
Eph 1:6
1:6 The thought of God’s almighty love leads to an extravagant outpouring of praise (vv. 12, 14) to God, who has not only the power but the will to overcome all obstacles in bringing the spiritually dead into a living relationship with Himself (expanded in 2:1–10).
grace . . . blessed us in the Beloved. This recalls the language of Col. 1:13, but also brings into view the Redeemer as Himself an object of God’s electing love (1 Pet. 1:18–21; Rev. 13:8). The language of grace dominates vv. 6–8.
