33:7 Judah. This blessing hints at the warrior role of the Davidic kings, descendants of Judah, in leading Israel into battle. But the blessing on Judah is extremely brief in view of the promise of rulership to Judah in Gen. 49:8–12, and in view of Judah’s large part in later history. Because a later writer might have wanted to give Judah more prominence, the brevity of this blessing points to a date for Deuteronomy during Moses’ lifetime.
