4:14 Luke. This traveling companion of Paul in Acts was with Paul on what may have been the eve of his death (2 Tim. 4:11). As author of the Gospel of Luke and Acts, he was also Paul’s chronicler. Though his writing shows him to be exceptionally literate, the mention of his occupation does not necessarily mark him as a man of high social standing, since physicians were often slaves.

Demas. Demas abandoned Paul during his second imprisonment in Rome (2 Tim. 4:10). He is mentioned one other time (Philem. 24).
