1:3 presented himself . . . many proofs. Christ’s resurrection appearances (Matt. 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20; 21; 1 Cor. 15:5–7) were important as an unshakable confirmation of Christ’s supernatural person and work. It was important that Jesus’ resurrection should be seen by the disciples (v. 22).

forty days. The time from the Resurrection to the Ascension. After Jesus ascended to heaven, the disciples stayed ten days in Jerusalem waiting for the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit that occurred on Pentecost, the fiftieth day after Passover.
