1:11 what . . . time. The prophets knew the Messiah would come (Is. 7:14; 9:6; 11:1), but they did not know when or how (cf. Dan. 12:6, 9).

the Spirit of Christ. This exact phrase appears only here and in Rom. 8:9 (cf. Acts 16:6, 7; Gal. 4:6; Phil. 1:19). The Holy Spirit is called this because He is sent by Christ (John 15:26) and because after the Resurrection, Christ and the Spirit act as one in applying redemption to the believer.
