6:16 an inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place. The Most Holy Place, a perfect cube about 30 feet on a side (v. 20), was the most sacred area of the temple. It contained the ark of the covenant (v. 19) and the cherubim. Only the High Priest was allowed to enter this room and then only on one day a year, the Day of Atonement (Hebrew Yom Kippur; Lev. 16; 23:26–32; Num. 29:7–11). The tabernacle had such “a Most Holy Place” (Ex. 26:33; cf. Heb. 9:12, 14).
