Subsequent to the Israelite capture of Sihon’s territory, the Israelites defeated King Og of Bashan and captured all his lands (east of the Sea of Chinneroth; see Num. 32:33; Deut. 3:1–11). Geber was therefore governor over a large district east of the Jordan.
