9:12 we have not made use of this right. In spite of the strain caused by his secular work added to the heavy demands of his apostolic ministry, Paul was determined not to become a burden to the churches (1 Thess. 2:6–9). It appears from 2 Cor. 11:7–12 that the Corinthians misinterpreted Paul’s motives. For reasons that are unclear, the apostle did make an exception in the case of the Philippian church in Macedonia (Phil. 4:15, 16).
