Midian, Madian [Mĭd'ĭan]—strife or contention. A son of Abraham by Keturah, whose descendants covered many parts (Gen. 25:2, 4; Exod. 2:15, 16; 1 Chron. 1:32, 33). Occasionally the Midianites are identified with the Ishmaelites (Judg. 6:33; 7:12).
