Kenaz, Kenez

Kenaz, Kenez [Kē'năz]—this possession or hunting.

  1. The fourth son of Eliphaz, the son of Esau (Gen. 36:11, 15; 1 Chron. 1:36).
  2. A duke of Edom, chieftain in Mount Seir. Perhaps the same as No. 1 (Gen. 36:42; 1 Chron. 1:53).
  3. The brother of Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and father of Othniel, one of Israel’s judges (Josh. 15:17; Judg. 1:13; 3:9, 11; 1 Chron. 4:13).
  4. A grandson of Caleb the son of Jephunneh (1 Chron. 4:15). For Kenezites or Kenizzites see Genesis 15:19 and Joshua 14:6, 14.
