Hermogenes [Hûrmŏg'e nēs]—begotten of mercury or generation of lucre. A companion of Paul who, with Phygelus, deserted the apostle in a time of trial. Many of the so-called friends of Paul caused him great sorrow of heart (2 Tim. 1:15).
