Apelles [Ăpĕl'Iēs]—i separate or exclude. An approved Christian at Rome to whom Paul sent a greeting (Rom. 16:10). A typical Jewish name. Apelles is yet found among the dependants of the Emperor. “Approved” means that this disciple’s fidelity to Christ had been tried and had stood the test. Apelles had proved his faith. Weymouth translates it—“Greetings to Apelles—that veteran believer.”
