  11. He fell asleep again and had a second dream: Seven heads of grain, healthy and good, were growing on a single stalk.
  12. After them, seven other heads of grain sprouted—thin and scorched by the east wind.
  13. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy, full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up; it had been a dream.
  14. “In my dream I saw seven heads of grain, full and good, growing on a single stalk.
  15. After them, seven other heads sprouted—withered and thin and scorched by the east wind.
  16. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads. I told this to the magicians, but none of them could explain it to me.”
  17. The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream.
  18. The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine.
  19. But Jacob said, “My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.”
  20. If you take this one from me too and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in misery.’

  22. But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim’s head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.
  23. When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim’s head he was displeased; so he took hold of his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.
  24. Joseph said to him, “No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.”
  25. Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
