  13. So David hid in the field, and when the New Moon feast came, the king sat down to eat.
  14. Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger; on that second day of the feast he did not eat, because he was grieved at his father’s shameful treatment of David.
  15. Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, filled with fear because of Samuel’s words. His strength was gone, for he had eaten nothing all that day and all that night.
  16. Now please listen to your servant and let me give you some food so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
  17. He refused and said, “I will not eat.” But his men joined the woman in urging him, and he listened to them. He got up from the ground and sat on the couch.
  18. They found an Egyptian in a field and brought him to David. They gave him water to drink and food to eat
  19. part of a cake of pressed figs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived, for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.
  20. He led David down, and there they were, scattered over the countryside, eating, drinking and reveling because of the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from Judah.
