  1. Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life;
  2. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.

  9. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
  10. If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.
  11. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

  16. That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
  17. Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.
  18. Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
  19. And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
  20. And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
  21. When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:
  22. No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life to pledge.
  23. And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
  24. See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
  25. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
