Psalm 23

The Good Shepherd

A Davidic psalm.

The Lord is my shepherd;(A)
there is nothing I lack.(B)
He lets me lie down in green pastures;(C)
He leads me beside quiet waters.(D)
He renews my life;
He leads me along the right paths[a]
for His name’s sake.(E)
Even when I go through the darkest valley,[b]
I fear no danger,
for You are with me;(F)
Your rod and Your staff[c]—they comfort me.(G)

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;(H)
my cup overflows.(I)
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me
all the days of my life,(J)
and I will dwell in[d] the house of the Lord
as long as I live.[e](K)

Who may stand in His holy place?(N)

Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.

The Lord of Hosts,
He is the King of glory.(V)Selah

in keeping with Your faithful love, remember me
because of Your goodness, Lord.(AI)

forgive my sin, for it is great.(AO)

Psalm 26

Prayer for Vindication

Davidic.

Vindicate me, Lord,
because I have lived with integrity
and have trusted in the Lord without wavering.(BF)
Test me, Lord, and try me;
examine my heart and mind.(BG)
For Your faithful love is before my eyes,
and I live by Your truth.(BH)

I do not sit with the worthless
or associate with hypocrites.
I hate a crowd of evildoers,
and I do not sit with the wicked.(BI)
I wash my hands[m] in innocence(BJ)
and go around Your altar, Lord,(BK)
raising my voice in thanksgiving(BL)
and telling about Your wonderful works.(BM)

Lord, I love the house where You dwell,
the place where Your glory resides.(BN)
Do not destroy me along with sinners,
or my life along with men of bloodshed(BO)
10 in whose hands are evil schemes
and whose right hands are filled with bribes.(BP)

11 But I live with integrity;
redeem me and be gracious to me.(BQ)
12 My foot stands on level ground;(BR)
I will praise the Lord in the assemblies.(BS)

Psalm 27

My Stronghold

Davidic.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom should I fear?(BT)
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom should I be afraid?(BU)
When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh,(BV)
my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.(BW)
Though an army deploys against me,
my heart is not afraid;
though a war breaks out against me,
still I am confident.(BX)

I have asked one thing from the Lord;
it is what I desire:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,(BY)
gazing on the beauty of the Lord(BZ)
and seeking Him in His temple.(CA)
For He will conceal me in His shelter
in the day of adversity;
He will hide me under the cover of His tent;
He will set me high on a rock.(CB)
Then my head will be high
above my enemies around me;(CC)
I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy.(CD)
I will sing and make music to the Lord.(CE)

Lord, hear my voice when I call;
be gracious to me and answer me.(CF)
My heart says this about You,
“You[n] are to seek My face.”
Lord, I will seek Your face.(CG)

You have been my helper;(CJ)

the Lord cares for me.(CK)

show me Your way, Lord,
and lead me on a level path.(CL)

14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong[o] and courageous.(CO)
Wait for the Lord.(CP)

My Strength

I will be like those going down to the Pit.(CR)
Listen to the sound of my pleading
when I cry to You for help,
when I lift up my hands
toward Your holy sanctuary.(CS)

Do not drag me away with the wicked,
with the evildoers,
who speak in friendly ways with their neighbors
while malice is in their hearts.(CT)
Repay them according to what they have done—
according to the evil of their deeds.
Repay them according to the work of their hands;
give them back what they deserve.(CU)
Because they do not consider
what the Lord has done
or the work of His hands,
He will tear them down and not rebuild them.(CV)

May the Lord be praised,
for He has heard the sound of my pleading.(CW)
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.(CX)
Therefore my heart rejoices,
and I praise Him with my song.(CY)

The Lord is the strength of His people;[p]
He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.(CZ)

shepherd them, and carry them forever.(DA)

The God of glory thunders—
the Lord, above vast waters,(DC)
the voice of the Lord in power,
the voice of the Lord in splendor.(DD)

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;

Lord, You brought me up from Sheol;(DR)
You spared me from among those
going down[u] to the Pit.(DS)

When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”(DV)
Lord, when You showed Your favor,
You made me stand like a strong mountain;(DW)
when You hid Your face, I was terrified.(DX)
Lord, I called to You;
I sought favor from my Lord:(DY)

if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise You?
Will it proclaim Your truth?(DZ)
10 Lord, listen and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.”(EA)

11 You turned my lament into dancing;
You removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,(EB)
12 so that I can sing to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise You forever.(EC)

like a dead person—like broken pottery.(ET)
13 I have heard the gossip of many;
terror is on every side.(EU)

I say, “You are my God.”(EW)
15 The course of my life is in Your power;(EX)
deliver me from the power of my enemies
and from my persecutors.(EY)
16 Show Your favor to Your servant;
save me by Your faithful love.(EZ)
