John 1:4-12

^4 (A)In him was life,^[a] and ^(B)the life was the light of men. ^5 (C)The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

⁶ There was a man ^(D)sent from God, whose name was ^(E)John. ⁷ He came as a ^(F)witness, to bear witness about the light, ^(G)that all might believe through him. ^8 (H)He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

^9 (I)The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet ^(J)the world did not know him. ¹¹ He came to ^(K)his own,^[b] and ^(L)his own people^{[c] (M)}did not receive him. ¹² But to all who did receive him, ^(N)who believed in his name, ^(O)he gave the right ^(P)to become ^(Q)children of God,
