17 (A)from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as (B)Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below (C)Mount Hermon. And he captured (D)all their kings and struck them and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war (E)a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except (F)the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord's doing (G)to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, (H)just as the Lord commanded Moses.

21 And Joshua came at that time and cut off (I)the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, (J)in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, (K)according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. (L)And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel (M)according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.

Kings Defeated by Moses

12 Now these are the kings of the land whom the people of Israel defeated and took possession of their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, from (N)the Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon, with all (O)the Arabah eastward: (P)Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and (Q)from the middle of the valley as far as the (R)river Jabbok, the boundary of the Ammonites, that is, half of Gilead, and (S)the Arabah (T)to the Sea of Chinneroth eastward, and in the direction of Beth-jeshimoth, to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, southward to the foot of (U)the slopes of Pisgah; and (V)Og[a] king of Bashan, one of the remnant of (W)the Rephaim, (X)who lived at Ashtaroth and at Edrei and ruled over (Y)Mount Hermon and (Z)Salecah and all Bashan (AA)to the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and over half of Gilead to the boundary of Sihon king of Heshbon. (AB)Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the people of Israel defeated them. And Moses the servant of the Lord (AC)gave their land for a possession to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Kings Defeated by Joshua

And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the people of Israel defeated on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon to (AD)Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir (and Joshua gave their land to the tribes of Israel as a possession (AE)according to their allotments, (AF)in the hill country, in the lowland, in the Arabah, in the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negeb, the land of (AG)the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites): (AH)the king of Jericho, one; (AI)the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; 10 (AJ)the king of Jerusalem, one; (AK)the king of Hebron, one; 11 (AL)the king of Jarmuth, one; (AM)the king of Lachish, one; 12 (AN)the king of Eglon, one; (AO)the king of Gezer, one; 13 (AP)the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; 14 the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; 15 (AQ)the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; 16 (AR)the king of Makkedah, one; (AS)the king of Bethel, one; 17 the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; 18 the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; 19 (AT)the king of Madon, one; (AU)the king of Hazor, one; 20 (AV)the king of Shimron-meron, one; (AW)the king of Achshaph, one; 21 (AX)the king of Taanach, one; (AY)the king of Megiddo, one; 22 the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; 23 (AZ)the king of Dor in (BA)Naphath-dor, one; the king of Goiim in Galilee,[b] one; 24 the king of Tirzah, one: in all, thirty-one kings.

Land Still to Be Conquered

13 Now Joshua (BB)was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land (BC)to possess. (BD)This is the land that yet remains: all the (BE)regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites (from the (BF)Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron, it is counted as Canaanite; (BG)there are five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of (BH)the Avvim, in the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the boundary of (BI)the Amorites, and the land of the (BJ)Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from (BK)Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to (BL)Lebo-hamath, all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to (BM)Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I myself will drive (BN)them out from before the people of Israel. Only (BO)allot the land to Israel (BP)for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. Now therefore (BQ)divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh[c] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, (BR)which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them: (BS)from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and (BT)all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 (BU)and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11 and Gilead, and the (BV)region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and (BW)all Bashan to Salecah; 12 (BX)all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of (BY)the remnant of the Rephaim); (BZ)these Moses had struck and driven out.
