3 Jehovah, how are mine adversaries increased!
Many are they that rise up against me.
² Many there are that say ^[a]of my soul,
There is no ^[b]help for him in God. Selah
³ But thou, O Jehovah, art a shield about me;
My glory, and the lifter up of my head.
⁴ I cry unto Jehovah with my voice,
And he answereth me out of his holy hill. Selah
⁵ I laid me down and slept;
I awaked; for Jehovah sustaineth me.
⁶ I will not be afraid of ten thousands of the people
That have set themselves against me round about.
⁷ Arise, O Jehovah; save me, O my God:
For thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone;
Thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.
^8 [c]Salvation belongeth unto Jehovah:
Thy blessing be upon thy people. Selah

4 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness;
Thou hast set me at large when I was in distress:
^[d]Have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
² O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor?
How long will ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah
³ But know that Jehovah hath set apart for himself ^[e]him that is godly:
Jehovah will hear when I call unto him.
^4 [f]Stand in awe, and sin not:
Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah
⁵ Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in Jehovah.
⁶ Many there are that say, Who will show us any good?
Jehovah, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
⁷ Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
More than they have when their grain and their new wine are increased.
⁸ In peace will I both lay me down and sleep;
For thou, Jehovah, ^[g]alone makest me dwell in safety.

12 Help, Jehovah; for the godly man ceaseth;
For ^[b]the faithful fail from among the children of men.
² They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor:
With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.
³ Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips,
The tongue that speaketh great things;
⁴ Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;
Our lips are ^[c]our own: who is lord over us?
⁵ Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,
Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;
I will set him in the safety he panteth for.
⁶ The words of Jehovah are pure words;
As silver tried in a furnace on the earth,
Purified seven times.
⁷ Thou wilt keep them, O Jehovah,
Thou wilt preserve them from this generation for ever.
⁸ The wicked walk on every side,
When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

13 How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?
How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
² How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
³ Consider and answer me, O Jehovah my God:
Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
⁴ Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him;
Lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.
⁵ But I have trusted in thy lovingkindness;
My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
⁶ I will sing unto Jehovah,
Because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

28 Unto thee, O Jehovah, will I call:
My rock, be not thou deaf unto me;
Lest, if thou be silent unto me,
I become like them that go down into the pit.
² Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee,
When I lift up my hands ^[a]toward thy holy oracle.
³ Draw me not away with the wicked,
And with the workers of iniquity;
That speak peace with their neighbors,
But mischief is in their hearts.
⁴ Give them according to their work, and according to the wickedness of their doings:
Give them after the operation of their hands;
Render to them their desert.
⁵ Because they regard not the works of Jehovah,
Nor the operation of his hands,
He will break them down and not build them up.

55 Give ear to my prayer, O God;
And hide not thyself from my supplication.
² Attend unto me, and answer me:
I am restless in my complaint, and moan,
³ Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked;
For they cast iniquity upon me,
And in anger they persecute me.
⁴ My heart is sore pained within me:
And the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
⁵ Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me,
And horror hath overwhelmed me.
⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove!
Then would I fly away, and be at rest.
⁷ Lo, then would I wander far off,
I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah
⁸ I would ^[a]haste me to a shelter
From the stormy wind and tempest.
^9 [b]Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongue;
For I have seen violence and strife in the city.
¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof:
Iniquity also and mischief are in the midst of it.
¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst thereof:
^[c]Oppression and guile depart not from its streets.
¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me;
Then I could have borne it:
Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me;
Then I would have hid myself from him:
¹³ But it was thou, a man mine equal,
My companion, and my familiar friend.
¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together;
We walked in the house of God with the throng.
^15 [d]Let death come suddenly upon them,
Let them go down alive into Sheol;
For wickedness is in their dwelling, in ^[e]the midst of them.
¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God;
And Jehovah will save me.
¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noonday, will I complain, and moan;
And he will hear my voice.
¹⁸ He hath redeemed my soul in peace ^[f]from the battle that was against me;
For they were many that strove with me.
¹⁹ God will hear, and ^[g]answer them,
Even he that abideth of old, Selah
The men who have no changes,
And who fear not God.
²⁰ He hath put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him:
He hath profaned his covenant.
²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter,
But his heart was war:
His words were softer than oil,
Yet were they drawn swords.
²² Cast ^[h]thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee:
He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.
²³ But thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction:
Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days;
But I will trust in thee.
