The Flying Scroll

5 Then I raised my eyes again and looked, and behold, there was a flying ^(A)scroll. ² And he said to me, “^(B)What do you see?” And I said, “I see a flying scroll; its length is ^[a]twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.” ³ Then he said to me, “This is the ^(C)curse that is going forth over the face of the entire ^[b]land; everyone who ^(D)steals certainly will be purged away according to ^[c]the writing on one side, and everyone who ^(E)swears falsely will be purged away according to ^[d]the writing on the other side. ⁴ I will ^(F)make it go forth,” declares the Lord of armies, “and it will ^(G)enter the house of the ^(H)thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and ^(I)destroy it with its timber and stones.”

⁵ Then ^(J)the angel who had been speaking with me went out and said to me, “Now raise your eyes and see what this is that is going forth.” ⁶ And I said, “What is it?” Then he said, “This is the ^[e](K)ephah going forth.” Again he said, “This is their ^[f]appearance in all the ^[g]land. ⁷ And behold, a lead cover was lifted up.” He continued, “And this is a woman sitting inside the ephah.” ⁸ Then he said, “This is ^(L)Wickedness!” And he thrust her into the middle of the ephah and threw the lead weight on its ^[h]opening. ⁹ Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had wings like the wings of the ^(M)stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens. ¹⁰ So I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the ephah?” ¹¹ Then he said to me, “To build a ^[i]temple for her in the land of ^(N)Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her own pedestal.”

The Four Chariots

6 Now I raised my eyes again and looked, and behold, ^(O)four chariots were going out from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains. ² With the first chariot were ^(P)red horses, with the second chariot ^(Q)black horses, ³ with the third chariot ^(R)white horses, and with the fourth chariot strong ^(S)spotted horses. ⁴ So I responded and said to the angel who was speaking with me, “^(T)What are these, my lord?” ⁵ The angel replied to me, “These are the ^(U)four spirits of heaven, going out after taking their stand before the Lord of all the earth, ⁶ with one of which the black horses are going out to the ^(V)north country; and the white ones are to go out after them, while the spotted ones are to go out to the ^(W)south country.” ⁷ When the strong ones went out, they ^[j]were eager to go to ^[k](X)patrol the earth. And He said, “Go, ^[l]patrol the earth.” So they ^[m]patrolled the earth. ⁸ Then He called out to me and spoke to me, saying, “See, those who are going to the land of the north have ^[n](Y)appeased My wrath in the land of the north.”

⁹ The ^(Z)word of the Lord also came to me, saying, ¹⁰ “^(AA)Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah; and you shall go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, where they have arrived from Babylon.

The Symbolic Crowns

¹¹ Also take silver and gold, make an ornate ^(AB)crown, and set it on the head of ^(AC)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. ¹² Then say to him, ‘The Lord of armies says this: “Behold, there is a Man whose name is ^[o](AD)Branch, for He will ^[p](AE)branch out from where He is; and He will ^(AF)build the temple of the Lord. ¹³ Yes, it is He who will build the temple of the Lord, and He who will ^(AG)bear the majesty and sit and ^(AH)rule on His throne. So He will be a ^(AI)priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two ^[q]offices.”’ ¹⁴ Now the ^(AJ)crown will become a reminder in the temple of the Lord to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and ^[r]Hen the son of Zephaniah. ^15 (AK)Those who are far away will come and ^[s]build the temple of the Lord.” Then you will ^(AL)know that the Lord of armies has sent me to you. And it will take place if you completely ^(AM)obey ^[t]the Lord your God.

7 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is ^(AN)Chislev. ² Now the town of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech and ^[u]their men to ^[v](AO)seek the favor of the Lord, ³ speaking to the ^(AP)priests who belong to the house of the Lord of armies, and to the prophets, saying, “Shall I weep in the ^(AQ)fifth month ^[w]and fast, as I have done these many years?” ⁴ Then the word of the Lord of armies came to me, saying, ⁵ “Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months ^[x]these ^(AR)seventy years, was it actually for ^(AS)Me that you fasted? ⁶ And when you eat and drink, ^[y]do you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves? ⁷ Are these not the words which the Lord ^(AT)proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and ^(AU)carefree along with its cities around it, and the ^[z](AV)Negev and the ^[aa]foothills were inhabited?’”

⁸ Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, ⁹ “This is what the Lord of armies has said: ‘^(AW)Dispense true justice and practice ^(AX)kindness and compassion each to his brother; ¹⁰ and ^(AY)do not oppress the widow or the ^[ab]orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do ^(AZ)not devise evil in your hearts against one another.’ ¹¹ But they ^(BA)refused to pay attention, and ^[ac](BB)turned a stubborn shoulder and ^[ad](BC)plugged their ears from hearing. ¹² They also made their ^(BD)hearts as hard as ^(BE)a diamond ^[ae]so that they could not hear the Law and the ^(BF)words which the Lord of armies had sent by His Spirit through the ^(BG)former prophets; therefore great ^(BH)wrath came from the Lord of armies. ¹³ And just as ^(BI)He called and they would not listen, so ^(BJ)they called and I would not listen,” says the Lord of armies; ¹⁴ “but I ^[af](BK)scattered them with a ^(BL)storm wind among all the nations whom they did not know. So the land was ^(BM)desolated behind them ^[ag]so that ^(BN)no one went back and forth, since they ^(BO)made the pleasant land desolate.”

The Coming Peace and Prosperity of Zion

8 Then the word of the Lord of armies came, saying, ² “The Lord of armies says this: ‘I am ^(BP)exceedingly jealous for Zion, yes, with great wrath I am jealous for her.’ ³ The Lord says this: ‘I will return to Zion and ^(BQ)dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of ^(BR)Truth, and the mountain of the Lord of armies will be called the Holy Mountain.’ ⁴ The Lord of armies says this: ‘^(BS)Old men and old women will again sit in the public squares of Jerusalem, each person with his staff in his hand because of ^[ah]age. ⁵ And the public squares of the city will be filled with ^(BT)boys and girls playing in its squares.’ ⁶ The Lord of armies says this: ‘If it is ^(BU)too difficult in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, will it also be ^(BV)too difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of armies. ⁷ The Lord of armies says this: ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the land of the ^[ai](BW)east and from the land of the ^[aj]west; ⁸ and I will ^(BX)bring them back and they will ^(BY)live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be ^(BZ)My people, and I will be their God in ^[ak]truth and righteousness.’

⁹ “The Lord of armies says this: ‘Let your hands be ^(CA)strong, you who are listening in these days to these words from the mouth of the ^(CB)prophets, those who spoke in the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of armies was laid, so that the temple might be built. ¹⁰ For before those days there was ^(CC)no wage for man nor any wage for animal; and for him who went out or came in there was no ^[al](CD)peace because of ^[am]his enemies, and I ^(CE)sent all the people against one another. ¹¹ But now I will ^(CF)not ^[an]treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,’ declares the Lord of armies. ¹² ‘For there will be ^(CG)the seed of peace: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce, and the heavens will provide their ^(CH)dew; and I will give to the remnant of this people ^(CI)all these things as an inheritance. ¹³ And it will come about that just as you were a ^(CJ)curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you that you may become a ^(CK)blessing. Do not fear; let your ^(CL)hands be strong.’

¹⁴ “For this is what the Lord of armies says: ‘Just as I ^(CM)determined to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to anger,’ says the Lord of armies, ‘and I have not ^(CN)relented, ¹⁵ so I have again determined in these days to ^(CO)do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. ^(CP)Do not fear! ¹⁶ These are the things which you shall do: speak the ^(CQ)truth to one another; ^(CR)judge with truth and judgment for peace at your ^[ao]gates. ¹⁷ Also let none of you ^(CS)devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love ^[ap](CT)perjury; for all these things are what I ^(CU)hate,’ declares the Lord.”

¹⁸ Then the word of the Lord of armies came to me, saying, ¹⁹ “The Lord of armies says this: ‘The fast of the ^(CV)fourth, the fast of the ^(CW)fifth, the fast of the ^(CX)seventh, and the fast of the ^(CY)tenth months will become ^(CZ)joy, jubilation, and ^[aq]cheerful festivals for the house of Judah; so ^(DA)love truth and peace.’

²⁰ “The Lord of armies says this: ‘It will yet turn out that ^(DB)peoples will come, that is, the inhabitants of many cities. ²¹ The inhabitants of one city will go to another, saying, “Let’s go at once to ^(DC)plead for the favor of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of armies; ^[ar]I also will go.” ²² So ^(DD)many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the Lord of armies in Jerusalem, and to ^(DE)plead for the favor of the Lord.’ ²³ The Lord of armies says this: ‘In those days ten people from all the ^[as]nations will ^[at](DF)grasp the ^[au]garment of a Jew, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”’”

The Fourfold Hallelujah

19 After these things I heard something like a ^(A)loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying,

“^(B)Hallelujah! ^(C)Salvation, ^(D)glory, and power belong to our God, ^2 (E)because His ^(F)judgments are ^(G)true and righteous; for He has judged the ^(H)great prostitute who was corrupting the earth with her sexual immorality, and He has ^(I)avenged the blood of His bond-servants ^[a]on her.” ³ And a second time they said, “^(J)Hallelujah! ^(K)Her smoke rises forever and ever.” ⁴ And the ^(L)twenty-four elders and the ^(M)four living creatures ^(N)fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne, saying, “^(O)Amen. ^(P)Hallelujah!” ⁵ And a voice came from the throne, saying,

“^(Q)Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, ^(R)you who fear Him, the small and the great.” ⁶ Then I heard something like ^(S)the voice of a great multitude and like ^(T)the sound of many waters, and like the ^(U)sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying,

“^(V)Hallelujah! For the ^(W)Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

Marriage of the Lamb

⁷ Let’s rejoice and be glad and ^(X)give the glory to Him, because ^(Y)the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His ^[b](Z)bride has prepared herself.” ⁸ It was given to her to clothe herself in ^(AA)fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the ^(AB)righteous acts of the ^[c]saints.

⁹ Then ^(AC)he *said to me, “^(AD)Write: ‘^(AE)Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.’” And he *said to me, “^(AF)These are the true words of God.” ¹⁰ Then ^(AG)I fell at his feet to worship him. ^(AH)But he *said to me, “^[d]Do not do that; I am a ^(AI)fellow servant of yours and your brothers and sisters who ^(AJ)hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

The Coming of Christ

¹¹ And I saw ^(AK)heaven opened, and behold, a ^(AL)white horse, and He who sat on it is called ^(AM)Faithful and True, and in ^(AN)righteousness He judges and wages war. ¹² His ^(AO)eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many ^(AP)crowns; and He has a ^(AQ)name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. ¹³ He is clothed with a ^(AR)robe dipped in blood, and His name is called ^(AS)The Word of God. ¹⁴ And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in ^(AT)fine linen, ^(AU)white and clean, were following Him on white horses. ^15 (AV)From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that ^(AW)with it He may strike down the nations, and He will ^[e](AX)rule them with a rod of iron; and ^(AY)He treads the ^[f]wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. ¹⁶ And on His robe and on His thigh He has ^(AZ)a name written: “^(BA)KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

¹⁷ Then I saw ^[g]an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to ^(BB)all the birds that fly in ^(BC)midheaven, “^(BD)Come, assemble for the great feast of God, ¹⁸ so that you may ^(BE)eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, ^(BF)both free and slaves, and ^(BG)small and great.”

¹⁹ And I saw ^(BH)the beast and ^(BI)the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who ^(BJ)sat on the horse, and against His army.

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

²⁰ And the beast was seized, and with him the ^(BK)false prophet who ^(BL)performed the signs ^[h](BM)in his presence, by which he ^(BN)deceived those who had received the ^(BO)mark of the beast and those who ^(BP)worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the ^(BQ)lake of ^(BR)fire, which burns with ^[i]brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were killed with the sword which ^(BS)came from the mouth of Him who ^(BT)sat on the horse, and ^(BU)all the birds were filled with their flesh.
