18 For I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my (A)flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For (B)the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I do the very thing I do not want, (C)I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me.

21 I find then (D)the [a]principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully agree with the law of God [b]in (E)the inner person, 23 but I see (F)a different law in [c]the parts of my body waging war against the (G)law of my mind, and making me a prisoner [d]of (H)the law of sin, the law which is in [e]my body’s parts.

18 For I know that (A)in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I (B)delight in the law of God according to (C)the inward man. 23 But (D)I see another law in (E)my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a](A) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.(B) 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.(C)

21 So I find this law at work:(D) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(E) I delight in God’s law;(F) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(G) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(H) at work within me.
