Prayer for the Overthrow of Zion’s Enemies.

A Song of Ascents.

129 “^[a]Many times they have ^(A)attacked me from my ^(B)youth up,”
^(C)Let Israel say,
²“^[b]Many times they have attacked me from my youth up;
Yet they have ^(D)not prevailed against me.
³The plowers plowed upon my back;
They lengthened their furrows.”
⁴The Lord ^(E)is righteous;
He has cut up the ^(F)ropes of the wicked.

⁵May all who ^(G)hate Zion
Be ^(H)put to shame and turned backward;
⁶May they be like ^(I)grass upon the housetops,
Which withers before it ^[c]grows up;
⁷With which the harvester does not fill his ^[d]hand,
Or the binder of sheaves his ^[e]^(J)arms;
⁸Nor do those who pass by say,
“The ^(K)blessing of the Lord be upon you;
We bless you in the name of the Lord.”

Hope in the Lord’s Forgiving Love.

130 Out of the ^(L)depths I have cried to You, Lord.
²Lord, ^(M)hear my voice!
Let ^(N)Your ears be attentive
To the ^(O)sound of my pleadings.
³If You, ^[f]Lord, were to keep account of guilty deeds,
Lord, who could ^(P)stand?
⁴But there is ^(Q)forgiveness with You,
So that You may be ^[g]^(R)revered.

⁵I wait for the Lord, my ^(S)soul waits,
And I ^[h]wait ^(T)for His word.
⁶My soul waits in hope for the Lord
More than the watchmen ^(U)for the morning;
Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
⁷Israel, ^(V)wait for the Lord;
For with the Lord there is ^(W)mercy,
And with Him is ^(X)abundant redemption.
⁸And He will ^(Y)redeem Israel
From all his guilty deeds.

131 Lord, my heart is not ^(Z)proud, nor my eyes ^(AA)arrogant;
Nor do I ^[i]involve myself in ^(AB)great matters,
Or in things ^(AC)too ^[j]difficult for me.
²I have certainly ^(AD)soothed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned ^(AE)child resting ^[k]against his mother,
My soul ^[l]within me is like a weaned child.
³Israel, ^(AF)wait for the Lord
^(AG)From this time on and forever.

11 ^(A)Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

²Now ^(B)I praise you because you ^(C)remember me in everything and ^(D)hold firmly to the traditions, just as I handed them down to you. ³But I want you to understand that Christ is the ^(E)head of every man, and ^[a]^(F)the man is the head of a woman, and God is the ^(G)head of Christ. ⁴Every man who has something on his head while praying or ^(H)prophesying disgraces his head. ⁵But every ^(I)woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for it is one and the same as the woman ^[b]whose head is ^(J)shaved. ⁶For if a woman does not cover ^[c]her head, have her also ^[d]cut her hair off; however, if it is disgraceful for a woman to ^[e]have her hair cut off or ^[f]her head shaved, have her cover ^[g]her head. ⁷For a man should not have his head covered, since he is the ^(K)image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. ⁸For ^(L)man ^[h]does not originate from woman, but woman from man; ⁹for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but ^(M)woman for the man’s sake. ¹⁰Therefore the woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. ¹¹However, in the Lord, neither is woman ^[i]independent of man, nor is man ^[j]independent of woman. ¹²For as the woman originated from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and ^(N)all things originate ^(O)from God. ¹³^(P)Judge ^[k]for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? ¹⁴Does even nature itself not teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, ¹⁵but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her as a covering. ¹⁶But if anyone is inclined to be contentious, ^(Q)we have no ^[l]such practice, nor have ^(R)the churches of God.
