33 And with many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to [a]understand it; 34 and He did not speak to them (A)without a parable; but He was (B)explaining everything privately to His own disciples.

33 Jesus used many other stories when he spoke to the people, and he taught them as much as they could understand. 34 He did not tell them anything without using stories. But when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.

33-34 With many stories like these, he presented his message to them, fitting the stories to their experience and maturity. He was never without a story when he spoke. When he was alone with his disciples, he went over everything, sorting out the tangles, untying the knots.
