⁴² And when evening was now come, (because it was the Parasceve, that is, the day before the sabbath,)

⁴³ Joseph of Arimathea, a noble counsellor, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

⁴⁴ But Pilate wondered that he should be already dead. And sending for the centurion, he asked him if he were already dead.

⁴⁵ And when he had understood it by the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

⁴⁶ And Joseph buying fine linen, and taking him down, wrapped him up in the fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewed out of a rock. And he rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre.

⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of Joseph, beheld where he was laid.

⁵⁷ And when it was evening, there came a certain rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus.

⁵⁸ He went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded that the body should be delivered.

⁵⁹ And Joseph taking the body, wrapped it up in a clean linen cloth.

⁶⁰ And laid it in his own new monument, which he had hewed out in a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the monument, and went his way.

⁶¹ And there was there Mary Magdalen, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre.

⁵⁰ And behold there was a man named Joseph, who was a counsellor, a good and just man,

⁵¹ (The same had not consented to their counsel and doings;) of Arimathea, a city of Judea; who also himself looked for the kingdom of God.

⁵² This man went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

⁵³ And taking him down, he wrapped him in fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that was hewed in stone, wherein never yet any man had been laid.

⁵⁴ And it was the day of the Parasceve, and the sabbath drew on.

⁵⁵ And the women that were come with him from Galilee, following after, saw the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

⁵⁶ And returning, they prepared spices and ointments; and on the sabbath day they rested, according to the commandment.

³⁸ And after these things, Joseph of Arimathea (because he was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

³⁹ And Nicodemus also came, (he who at the first came to Jesus by night,) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

⁴⁰ They took therefore the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths, with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

⁴¹ Now there was in the place where he was crucified, a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein no man yet had been laid.

⁴² There, therefore, because of the parasceve of the Jews, they laid Jesus, because the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

⁶² And the next day, which followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees came together to Pilate,

⁶³ Saying: Sir, we have remembered, that that seducer said, while he was yet alive: After three days I will rise again.

⁶⁴ Command therefore the sepulchre to be guarded until the third day: lest perhaps his disciples come and steal him away, and say to the people: He is risen from the dead; and the last error shall be worse than the first.

⁶⁵ Pilate saith to them: You have a guard; go, guard it as you know.

⁶⁶ And they departing, made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting guards.

16 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought sweet spices, that coming, they might anoint Jesus.

² And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they come to the sepulchre, the sun being now risen.

³ And they said one to another: Who shall roll us back the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

⁴ And looking, they saw the stone rolled back. For it was very great.

⁵ And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed with a white robe: and they were astonished.

⁶ Who saith to them: Be not affrighted; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified: he is risen, he is not here, behold the place where they laid him.

⁷ But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee; there you shall see him, as he told you.

⁸ But they going out, fled from the sepulchre. For a trembling and fear had seized them: and they said nothing to any man; for they were afraid.

28 And in the end of the sabbath, when it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalen and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre.

² And behold there was a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and coming, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it.

³ And his countenance was as lightning, and his raiment as snow.

⁴ And for fear of him, the guards were struck with terror, and became as dead men.

⁵ And the angel answering, said to the women: Fear not you; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.

⁶ He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come, and see the place where the Lord was laid.

⁷ And going quickly, tell ye his disciples that he is risen: and behold he will go before you into Galilee; there you shall see him. Lo, I have foretold it to you.

24 And on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared.

² And they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre.

³ And going in, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

⁴ And it came to pass, as they were astonished in their mind at this, behold, two men stood by them, in shining apparel.

⁵ And as they were afraid, and bowed down their countenance towards the ground, they said unto them: Why seek you the living with the dead?

⁶ He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke unto you, when he was in Galilee,

⁷ Saying: The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

⁸ And they remembered his words.

⁹ And going back from the sepulchre, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.

¹⁰ And it was Mary Magdalen, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.

¹¹ And these words seemed to them as idle tales; and they did not believe them.

¹² But Peter rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves; and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

⁹ But he rising early the first day of the week, appeared first to Mary Magdalen, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

¹⁰ She went and told them that had been with him, who were mourning and weeping.

¹¹ And they hearing that he was alive, and had been seen by her, did not believe.

¹² And after that he appeared in another shape to two of them walking, as they were going into the country.

¹³ And they going told it to the rest: neither did they believe them.

20 And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen cometh early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre; and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

² She ran, therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

³ Peter therefore went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the sepulchre.

⁴ And they both ran together, and that other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

⁵ And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying; but yet he went not in.

⁶ Then cometh Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulchre, and saw the linen cloths lying,

⁷ And the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place.

⁸ Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulchre: and he saw, and believed.

⁹ For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

¹⁰ The disciples therefore departed again to their home.
