10 And Joshua turned back at that time and captured (A)Hazor and struck its king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms. 11 And they struck with the sword all who were in it, devoting them to destruction;[a] (B)there was none left that breathed. And he burned Hazor with fire. 12 And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, Joshua captured, and struck them with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction, (C)just as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded. 13 But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor alone; that Joshua burned. 14 And all the spoil of these cities and the livestock, the people of Israel took for their plunder. But every person they struck with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any who breathed. 15 (D)Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, (E)so Moses commanded Joshua, (F)and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.

16 So Joshua took all that land, (G)the hill country and all the Negeb and (H)all the land of Goshen (I)and the lowland (J)and the Arabah (K)and the hill country of Israel and its lowland 17 (L)from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as (M)Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below (N)Mount Hermon. And he captured (O)all their kings and struck them and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war (P)a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except (Q)the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord's doing (R)to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, (S)just as the Lord commanded Moses.

21 And Joshua came at that time and cut off (T)the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, (U)in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain.

  1. Joshua 11:11 That is, setting apart (devoting) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction); also verses 12, 20, 21

10 At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword.(A) (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.) 11 Everyone in it they put to the sword. They totally destroyed[a] them,(B) not sparing anyone that breathed,(C) and he burned(D) Hazor itself.

12 Joshua took all these royal cities and their kings and put them to the sword. He totally destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.(E) 13 Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds—except Hazor, which Joshua burned. 14 The Israelites carried off for themselves all the plunder and livestock of these cities, but all the people they put to the sword until they completely destroyed them, not sparing anyone that breathed.(F) 15 As the Lord commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.(G)

16 So Joshua took this entire land: the hill country,(H) all the Negev,(I) the whole region of Goshen, the western foothills,(J) the Arabah and the mountains of Israel with their foothills, 17 from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir,(K) to Baal Gad(L) in the Valley of Lebanon(M) below Mount Hermon.(N) He captured all their kings and put them to death.(O) 18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. 19 Except for the Hivites(P) living in Gibeon,(Q) not one city made a treaty of peace(R) with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts(S) to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.(T)

21 At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites(U) from the hill country: from Hebron, Debir(V) and Anab,(W) from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua totally destroyed them and their towns. 22 No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza,(X) Gath(Y) and Ashdod(Z) did any survive.
