40 But as it is, (A)you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has (B)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of (C)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born as a result of sexual immorality; (D)we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (E)you would love Me, (F)for I came forth from God and am here; for I have (G)not even come [a]on My own, but [b](H)He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand [c](I)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (J)listen to My word. 44 (K)You are of (L)your father the devil, and (M)you want to do the desires of your father. (N)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (O)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells [d]a lie, he (P)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of [e]lies.

“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”(D)

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me,(E) for I have come here from God.(F) I have not come on my own;(G) God sent me.(H) 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil,(I) and you want to carry out your father’s desires.(J) He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.(K)
