39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

39 You study[a] the Scriptures(A) diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life.(B) These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,(C) 40 yet you refuse to come to me(D) to have life.
41 “I do not accept glory from human beings,(E) 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
