John 1:4-13
New American Standard Bible
4 (A)In Him was life, and the life was (B)the Light of mankind. 5 And (C)the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [a]grasp it.
The Witness John the Baptist
6 A man [b]came, one sent from God, and his name was (D)John. 7 [c]He came [d](E)as a witness, to testify about the Light, (F)so that all might believe through him. 8 [e](G)He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9 [f]This was (H)the true Light [g]that, coming into the world, enlightens every person. 10 He was in the world, and (I)the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not [h]know Him. 11 He came to His [i]own, and His own people did not [j]accept Him. 12 But [k]as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become (J)children of God, (K)to those who [l]believe in His name, 13 (L)who were [m]born, not of [n]blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.
