^28 (A)I give them eternal life, and ^(B)they will never perish, and ^(C)no one will snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, ^(D)who has given them to me,^{[a] (E)}is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of ^(F)the Father's hand. ^30 (G)I and the Father are one.”

^21 (A)that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that ^(B)they also may be in ^(C)us, so that the world ^(D)may believe that you have sent me.

²⁹ Jesus answered, “The most important is, ^(A)‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, ^(B)the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ ^31 (C)The second is this: ^(D)‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment ^(E)greater than these.” ³² And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that ^(F)he is one, and ^(G)there is no other besides him. ³³ And to love him with all the heart and with all ^(H)the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbour as oneself, ^(I)is much more than all ^(J)whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” ^(K)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Whose Son Is the Christ?

^35 (L)And as ^(M)Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that ^(N)the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ David himself, ^(O)in the Holy Spirit, declared,

³⁷ David himself calls him Lord. So ^(R)how is he his son?” And the great throng ^(S)heard him gladly.

Christ's Example of Humility

2 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from ^(A)love, any ^(B)participation in the Spirit, any ^(C)affection and sympathy, ^2 (D)complete my joy by being ^(E)of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
