A man [b]came, one sent from God, and his name was (D)John. [c]He came [d](E)as a witness, to testify about the Light, (F)so that all might believe through him. [e](G)He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

[f]This was (H)the true Light [g]that, coming into the world, enlightens every person. 10 He was in the world, and (I)the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not [h]know Him. 11 He came to His [i]own, and His own people did not [j]accept Him.
