^4 (A)In Him was life, and ^(B)the life was the light of men. ⁵ And ^(C)the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not ^[a]comprehend it.

John’s Witness: The True Light

⁶ There was a ^(D)man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ This man came for a ^(E)witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might ^(F)believe. ⁸ He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that ^(G)Light. ^9 (H)That^[b] was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and ^(I)the world did not know Him.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, ^(A)that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer ^(A)the light is with you. ^(B)Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; ^(C)he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. ³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become ^(D)sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and ^(E)was hidden from them.
