10 “Now it will happen that, when you tell this people all these words, they will say to you, ‘(A)For what reason has the Lord declared all this great disaster against us? And what is our wrongdoing, or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 Then you are to say to them, ‘It is (B)because your forefathers have abandoned Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and have followed (C)other gods, and served and worshiped them; but they have abandoned Me and have not kept My Law. 12 You too have done evil, even (D)more than your forefathers; for behold, each one of you is following the (E)stubbornness of his own (F)evil heart, without listening to Me. 13 So I will (G)hurl you off this land to the (H)land which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers; and there you will (I)serve other gods day and night, because I will show you no compassion.’

God Will Restore Them

14 (J)Therefore behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when it will no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives, who (K)brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’ 15 but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the (L)land of the north and from all the lands where He had banished them.’ For I will restore them to their own land which I gave to their fathers.

16 “Behold, I am going to send for many (M)fishermen,” declares the Lord, “and they will fish for them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they will (N)hunt them (O)from every mountain and every hill and from the clefts of the rocks. 17 (P)For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, (Q)nor is their wrongdoing concealed from My eyes. 18 I will first repay them (R)double for their wrongdoing and their sin, because they have (S)defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their (T)detestable idols and their abominations.”

19 Lord, my (U)strength and my stronghold,
And my (V)refuge in the day of distress,
To You the (W)nations will come
From the ends of the earth and say,
“Our fathers have inherited nothing but (X)falsehood,
Futility, and [a](Y)things of no benefit.”
20 Can a person make gods for himself?
But they are (Z)not gods!

21 “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—
This time I will (AA)make them know
My [b]power and My might;
And they will (AB)know that My name is the Lord.”

10 “When you tell the people all these things, they will ask you, ‘Why does Yahweh threaten us with all these disasters? What have we done wrong? How have we sinned against Yahweh our Elohim?’ 11 Then say to them, ‘It’s because your ancestors abandoned me, declares Yahweh. They followed other gods, served them, worshiped them, and abandoned me. They didn’t obey my teachings. 12 You have done worse than your ancestors. All of you are following your own stubborn, evil ways that keep you from obeying me. 13 So I will throw you out of this land into a land that you and your ancestors haven’t heard of. There you will serve other gods day and night because I will no longer have pity on you.’

14 “That is why the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when people will no longer begin an oath with, ‘Yahweh brought the people of Israel out of Egypt. As Yahweh lives. . . .’ 15 But they will say, ‘Yahweh brought the people of Israel out of the land of the north and all the lands where he had scattered them. As Yahweh lives. . . .’ They will say this because I will bring them back to the land that I gave their ancestors.

16 “I’m going to send for many fishermen,” declares Yahweh, “and they will catch the people of Israel. After that, I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt for them on every mountain and hill and even in the cracks in the rocks. 17 I see everything that they do. They can’t hide anything from me. Their wickedness can’t be hidden; I can see it. 18 First, I will have them pay twice as much for their wickedness and their sin, because they have polluted my land. They have filled my property with the lifeless statues of their detestable and disgusting idols.”

19 Yahweh is my strength and my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.
Nations come to you from the most distant parts of the world
and say, “Our ancestors have inherited lies,
        worthless and unprofitable gods.”

20 “People can’t make gods for themselves.
    They aren’t really gods.
21 That is what I will teach them.
This time I will make my power and my strength known to them.
Then they will know that my name is Yahweh.”
