For, lo, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

And these are the words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

For behold, (A)days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will (B)restore the fortunes of My people (C)Israel and Judah.’ The Lord says, ‘I will also (D)bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers, and they shall take possession of it.’”

Now these are the words which the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:

“For this is what the Lord says:

[a]I have heard a sound of (E)terror,
Of fear, and there is no peace.
Ask now, and see
If a male can give birth.
Why do I see every man
With his hands on his waist, (F)as a woman in childbirth?
And why have all faces turned pale?
Woe, for that (G)day is great,
There is (H)none like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s (I)distress,
Yet he will be (J)saved from it.

‘It shall come about on that day,’ declares the Lord of armies, ‘that I will (K)break his yoke from [b]their necks and will tear to pieces [c]their (L)restraints; and strangers will no longer (M)make [d]them their slaves. But they shall serve the Lord their God and (N)David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
